▶ General News: James Comey defended putting a piece of tape over his personal laptop’s webcam, claiming the security step was a common sense one that most should take. Nobody wants Hillary Clinton’s new book. Gov. Matt Bevin said it would be possible to “recover as a nation” if Clinton is elected, but insinuated that such a recovery would come at a great price.
▶ Economics: Millions of American teenagers are at risk of running out of food or don’t have access to affordable, healthy food. Money manager Michael Pento wrote a book a few years ago warning of “The Coming Bond Market Collapse.”
▶ Global Issues: The leaders of the four U.S. military services said Thursday that their forces will not be able to defend America if sequestration continues. President Rodrigo Duterte has instructed Philippine defense officials to go to Russia and China to buy defense assets from those countries. The U.S. Naval Institute seems worried about the Russians. Political analyst at Hong Kong City University, Joseph Cheng, says Moscow wants to demonstrate it will defend its interests, while China welcomes the opportunity to respond to US multilateral exercises in the region. Russia’s Defense Ministry says the U.S. isn’t holding up its end of the ceasefire in Syria. UN Chief says he’s never seen tensions so high in the Koreas. China sets up new logistics force. U.S. intelligence agencies are expanding spying operations against Russia.
